Clenched up

I keep finding myself in moments where I have been clenching my teeth together hard and not realizing it until the pressure sensation snaps me out of it. I wonder what's going on. Maybe it's stress of some sort? Why just recently?

  1. maybe you're worried about your unknown future. I have that same teeth clenching problem and end up with jaw aches. Every now and then I kind of open my mouth wide and stretch my jaw out and loosen it up (makes me look kind of stupid but I don't care), and that helps.

  2. Stimulants cause jaw clenches. Stop doing extasy it'll help. I get them when I'm full of adrenaline. Like I said, stimulants.

  3. Hi,

I just came across your blog.

I actually have the same problem with teeth clenching :-\. It's definitely stress related. A lot of people clench or grind their teeth more while sleeping which can cause a lot of problems (tmj, tooth wear & breakage, headaches etc.)

There's actually a few retraining techniques that i got from an oral surgeon i went to.

    1. Touch the tip of your tongue to the top of your mouth
    2. Keeping your tongue up, easily open and close your mouth (only as far as your tongue will let it go)
    3. Don't strain while doing this; let your muscles relax

The other is every 2 minutes or so (especially if you notice yourself clenching your teeth) place your tongue between your top and bottom sets for 30 seconds.

I've been trying the second approach and it's not as easy as it sounds. I guess i just have a lot of tension in my jaw.
